Conference Venue

The XII SSAGI will be held in the Viña del Mar Campus of the UNIVERSIDAD ANDRÉS BELLO, located at Quillota 980 street. It is placed in close proximity to hotels and hostels near the Libertad Avenue, with high frequency of public transport. Uber application is widely used in the city.


Viña del Mar hosts a number of wide variety of attractive accommodation. The conference venue is near a residential area of Viña del Mar, with large number of hotels, hostels and restaurants. Arrangements for the participants of the XII SAGI have been made with the NOVOTEL at Viña del Mar.

A beautiful city

Viña del Mar is a touristic city close to Valparaíso and San Antonio, two important port cities of Chile. Unique characteristics of the city include the Wulff castle (early 20th Century), Quinta Vergara park, Casona de Pablo Neruda and several beaches (see Attendants at the conference can enjoy an unforgettable city tour of the port city of Valparaiso, a UNESCO world heritage site known for its cultural attractions. Viña del Mar hosts a number of wide variety of attractive accommodation with large number of hotels, and hostels.

The weather in Viña del Mar is of Mediterranean type, with oceanic influence, foggy skies, warm summers and rainy winters. The climate in this area is influenced by the Humboldt ocean current, allowing for a mild climate with pleasant temperatures throughout the year. The average spring temperature is 15 °C (59 F).


All international flights to Chile arrive at Santiago, the capital city. Attendees can easily transfer to Viña del Mar from Santiago by bus: from the airport, there is a bus called Centro Puerto ($2 USD) to Pajaritos Metro Station from where buses leave to Viña del Mar ($10 USD). Alternatively, private taxi cabs or shuttles are available ($145 USD for 1-2 passengers to $219 USD for 8-12 passengers) as well as rental cars at the airport. From the Santiago Airport, the drive to Viña del Mar is approximately 90 minutes via Route 68. In Viña del Mar there is a city bus service and taxis are readily available, however it is only a few minutes’ walk from the convention centre to most accommodation and main city attractions. Rental vehicles are available to holders of a valid driver’s license within their country of origin and can be picked up at the airport in Santiago or within the city. Most cars in Chile are manual; to rent an automatic car advance reservation is recommended. Throughout Chile, driving is on the right-hand side of the road.

Passport & Visa

All overseas visitors are required to have a valid passport for the duration of their stay in Chile, and with the exception of attendees from visa-free countries, attendees are required to have the appropriate visa. In the simplest case, foreigners that enter the country with a valid passport will be granted a 90-day tourist visa: depending on the nationality there may be a fee for this. Banks and credit cards

Banks are open Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are common and accept most foreign credit and debit cards valid for use in a foreign country (it is recommended that you notify your bank beforehand regarding the trip to Chile, so that credit and debit cards can be used without any restrictions). Credit cards are widely used in Chile (VISA, Mastercard, American Express). Money-changing facilities are available on arrival at the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport and also at banks. Currency exchanges (eg., AFEX) usually offer better rates and can be found in all major cities in Chile. Purchases in Chile are subject to a 19% tax (IVA), which is usually included in the published retail prices for goods and services.
